Porsche Cars North America Inc. will build a new $100 million headquarters at Aerotropolis, a 130-acre mixed-use development near Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport.

The German luxury automaker said Thursday it will move from its Sandy Springs, Ga., headquarters to a 26-acre campus that will include a 150,000-square-foot office tower. Porsche announced the relocation at a press conference at 9 a.m. May 12. Atlanta Business Chronicle first reported on Porsche’s interest in Aerotropolis in October 2010.

Saben proposes 2.8M distribution project

Developer Mark Shugart with Saben LLC has applied for rezoning in Fairburn, Ga., for a 2.8 million-square-foot industrial/distribution development off Interstate 85.

According to a March 28 filing with the state as a development of regional impact, the project -- Shugart Farms Lake Park -- would have 2.8 million square feet of buildings and would include parking areas and truck courts. The location is 165 acres on Bohannon Road near I-85.

The project would be built in phases, with one main 1.5 million-square-foot building and then later other buildings of varying sizes, sources told Atlanta Business Chronicle.

Pending approval, the development would be finished by December 2014.

The Fairburn area, south of Atlanta, has seen its share recent industrial activity.  A year ago, Clorox Sales Co. inked a deal to move into a 1.1 million-square-foot build-to-suit warehouse in Fairburn.
