Wamar to expand, add 300 jobs in Georgia

Atlanta Business Chronicle, Monday, November 16, 2009

Wamar International Inc. plans to grow its Georgia operations, creating 100 jobs over the next three years and 300 jobs over the next 10 years, Gov. Sonny Perdue announced from the Dubai Airshow on Monday.

Wamar will consolidate its three business units -- defense and security, energy and procurement and logistics -- into one location, representing an investment between $3.5 and $4.5 million, the governor’s office said.

The company’s current plant in Norcross, Ga., will move to a 100,000-square-foot location near Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. The Atlanta division will have three components: Wamar Technologies LLC, Wamar Energy LLC and Global Tech Services.

Wamar provides services and products in power generation, oil and gas, aviation, real life support, and defense and security.

A Southern Opportunity

A Southside development launched by longtime Atlanta real estate developer Charlies Brown's company could get a boost from a newly created tax credity zone meant to spur economic activity across the area.

Known as the "Union City opportunity zone," it's part of Georgia's job tax credit program for areas that need redevelopment and revitatlization.

Any eligible business locating in the Union City Opportunity Zone would get a $3,500-per-employee tax credit for two or more employees for a five-year period.

The opportunity zone incorporate most of the planned development of Parkway South, or about 2,500 acres centered along South Fulton Parkway, minutes from Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport.
